Quarter-Finals Round 6: CHINA - QATAR 71-66

Qatar put up a decent fight against China but eventually came up short at the quarterfinal stage of Asian Games. Veteran Wang ZhiZhi scored 18 points and grabbed 9 rebounds to propel China into the semifinal. It was do-or-die battle for both sides. Both teams played in the Final of 2006 Asian Games with China celebrating victory. Qatar did not manage to avenge the loss this time. Matthew Skillman team got to a nice start as they were up by two 12:10 midway through the opening quarter. But China erased the deficit and registered a 20:16 advantage at the first break. The hosts pulled away late in the first half. They established a 36:25 halftime buffer. The margin grew at 12-point mark in the third period but Qatar did not give it up. They narrowed the distance at 8 points with ten minutes to go. Qatar got even closer late in regulation but China stayed focused and eked out a tough win at the end. Zhu FangYu had 14 points for China. Wang ShiPeng added 12 points in the win. Targuy Ngombo answered with 24 points and 9 rebounds for Qatar. Yasseen Musa delivered 21 points and 17 rebounds in the loss.
