South Korea became the first Asian Games semifinalists. They held off Philippines in the first quarterfinal tonight. Oh SeKeun stepped up with 19 points and 9 rebounds to lead the effort. South Korea pulled in front early in the encounter. They maintained the advantage and finished the opening quarter up by two points 21:19. More to come in the second period as South Korea mounted the pressure. They dominated the boards and looked more focused defensively. The Korean team stretched the margin to 8 points at halftime 44:36. Philippines could not get any closer in the third frame. South Korea wisely kept their opponents at distance posting a 61:51 lead with one quarter to go. The complexion of the game did not change in the fourth frame. South Korea remained calm and determined as they drove to a confident win at the end. Kim Sung-Chul knocked down 13 points for the winners. Lee Seung-Jun contributed 12 points for South Korea. Asi Taulava replied with 23 points for Philippines. JV Casio had 12 points in defeat.
