Iran celebrated the victory on the final day of action at Asian Games in Guangzhou. They held off Japan to step onto the pedestal. Hamed Afagh exploded with 27 points to lead the effort. Iran put their noses in front early in the encounter. They ensured a 5-point lead before Japan stepped up to cut the distance. Led by Takumi Ishizaki Japan managed to pull within just two points at the first break 24:26. Iran opened the second frame on an 11:5 run to clear off once again. They raced to a 43:36 halftime advantage. Iran did not slow down in the third period. They were more accurate from the field and secured a 59:50 lead at the final intermission. Iran used all of their experience to keep Japan at bay throughout the final stanza. Iran avoided drama of the final minutes and ensured a comfortable win at the end. Asghar Kardoust notched 13 points and 7 rebounds for Iran. Mahdi Kamrani and Hamed Sohrabnejad had 10 points each in the victory. Takumi Ishizaki replied with 17 points for Japan. Kosuke Takeuchi netted 13 points and collected 9 rebounds in the losing effort.
