Regular Season Round 6: Ilysiakos - Panionios 72-74
Date: November 29, 2010
We should definitely mention a derby match between two teams from Athens: Panionios (#10) and Ilysiakos (#14). Despite it looked like an easy game for Panionios, those rules do not exist in derby games. It's more the case of honor for local supporters and such games have that special and unique approach you cannot find in other games. How else can you describe just 2 points victory of Panionios 74-72. The biggest contributor to a victory was former international forward Nikos Barlos (202-79) with double-double 28 points and 13 rebounds. Serbian guard Milos Vujanic (192-80) helped with 11 points. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward LaQuan Prowell (203-84, college: Auburn, agent: Yossi Gayer) who recorded 13 points and 8 rebounds and his countryman guard Jimmy Baxter (198-80, college: S.Florida) added 11 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. It was third consecutive victory for Panionios, while Ilysiakos lost their sixth game in a row. Panionios (3-3) jumped to the fourth spot. They share that position with six other teams. Ilysiakos still at the very bottom with 0-6 record. Panionios' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Athens to the arena Peristeri GS.
