Penarol survived a tough test against Toros to reach the second stage of Liga Americas tournament. Martin Leiva came up with 18 points to lead Penarol past Toros in Mar del Plata. The Argentinean side improved at 2-0 record leaving Toros at 0-2. Penarol will face Regatas Corrientes for the top position in Group A later tonight. Marcus Leiva scored 6 points in the opening frame to help Penarol to the better start. The hosts eked out a 20:18 lead after ten minutes. Penarol did not surrender the lead in the second frame. They arrived at halftime up by 5 points 34:29. Penarol started to get away in the third frame. Leonardo Gutierrez unloaded 9 points in the quarter as Penarol ensured a 9-point advantage with one quarter remaining. Toros got closer in the final term but Leonardo Gutierrez and Martin Leiva came up with key buckets late in regulation to seal the victory for Penarol. Leonardo Gutierrez tallied 17 points and 10 rebounds for Penarol. Kyle Lamonte contributed 12 points in the victory. Adrian Henning replied with 23 points for Toros. Quentin Joseph had 18 points and 11 rebounds in defeat.
