Regular Season Round 5: BK Prostejov - Telekom Baskets 86-63

Date: December 14, 2010
Erasing any doubts about their place as the leaders of Group E, BK Prostejov put on a show as they blew past visiting Telekom Baskets Bonn 86-63 tonight in the Czech Republic. Bonn started off well as they opened the game on a 7-0 run before a Eugene Lawrence (184-G-86, college: St.John's) layup broke the scoreless streak for the hosts at the 7:45 mark. A Benas Veikalas (192-G-83, college: Metro St.) three with 15 seconds to go would help the hosts close the quarter up 22-16. Veikalas led Prostejov with 11 first-half points while young German big man Tim Ohlbrecht (211-C/F-88) paced Bonn with 12. The second half was a different story. Once Prostejov stretched their lead to double-digits at the four minute mark of the third quarter (49-39), they would not look back as they cruised for an easy 86-63 victory. Benas Veikalas led the way, scoring a game-high 19 points, while Ohlbrecht finished with a solid double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. For Prostejov, this is only the second time in club history that they have progressed pas the group stage of a European competition. In 2006-07 they advanced to the quarterfinals of the EuroChallenge before falling to Kervanos of Cyprus in the quarterfinals. Bonn now need KK Zagreb (0-4) to do them a favor on Tuesday and beat Krka (3-1) or else their faint hopes of progressing to the Last 16 will vanish. (by Surujh Roopnarine)
