In Leeuwarden, the team of DeFriesland Aris Leeuwarden head coach Pete Miller received an early Christmas present, ending a seven-year winning drought versus northern rival GasTerra Flames Groningen to win 83-78. It was the first ever home win for Aris in the seven-year derby. Aris had at one point a comfortable 60-40 lead, but the defending Dutch champions showed their true grit in crunch time, closing the score to 80-78 on a Henry Bekkering three-pointer to make it 80-78 for Aris. But the home team would not be denied, as Aris PG John Williams would make the clutch free throws in the closing seconds to seal the win. Calvin Chitwoord had perhaps his best game of the season, scoring a game-high 22 pts., with Manny Adako adding 16 and Williams with 14. Steve Ross led Donar with 17 pts. while Jason Ellis added a double-double of 13 pts. and 16 boards. De Friesland Aris improves to 9-9 while the Flames fall to 15-2. *by Sanders Jackson
