Regular Season Round 12: Philip.Patriots - Singapore S. 80-73

An interesting game for Filipino Philippine Patriots (8-6) which hosted in Manila one of their biggest challengers Singapore Singapore Slingers (7-7). Second ranked Philippine Patriots managed to get a 7-point victory 80-73. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Singapore Slingers. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 22-16. But Singapore Slingers won second period 21-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a good game for guard Egay Billones (175-75) who led his team to a victory with 21 points. American forward Steve Thomas (203-81, college: Middle Tenn.St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Philippine Patriots' coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Marcus Skinner (201-86, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee) replied with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds and his fellow American import center Kyle Jeffers (206-85, college: Oregon St.) added 13 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Singapore Slingers. Four Singapore Slingers players scored in double figures. Philippine Patriots maintains second position with 8-6 record having just two points less than leader Thailand S., which they share with KL Dragons. Singapore Slingers at the other side keep the fourth place with seven games lost. Philippine Patriots is looking forward to face league's leader Thailand S. in Bangkok in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Singapore Slingers will play on the road against the league's second-placed KL Dragons in Kuala Lumpur and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
