Regular Season Round 57: Chicago B. - Philadelph.76 121-76
Date: December 21, 2010
Kurt Thomas has battle scars that might be older than Derrick Rose, which is why he always offers a bemused look when questioned about what he has to offer. "I'll just do what I've always been doing — defend, rebound, set screens and hit open shots," the 15-year veteran has said. If Thomas does those things at even half the rate he offered Tuesday night in the Bulls' 121-76 blowout victory over the 76ers, Joakim Noah's eight- to 10-week absence won't be nearly so painful. Thomas had 12 points, eight rebounds and five blocked shots in 28 minutes and helped set a defensive tone that carried the Bulls to their eighth victory in nine games. Taj Gibson sat for precautionary reasons after suffering a concussion Saturday, joining Noah in street clothes. That made the 38-year-old Thomas' performance all the more valuable — and needed. "He has been doing it for 100 years," coach Tom Thibodeau said. "He's a smart player, plays good body-position defense, great communicator, sets great screens. And he can shoot." Rose, Luol Deng and Carlos Boozer handled the heavy lifting offensively, helping the Bulls record a season-high 32 assists and shoot a season-high 64.5 percent in posting their largest margin of victory. Rose finished with 22 points and 12 assists in 29 minutes. Deng also scored 22. And Boozer had 16 points and 11 rebounds as all the starters were able to sit the entire fourth quarter with a game looming Wednesday in Washington. *Courtesy of www.chicagotribune.com
