Filipino Philippine Patriots (#2) forced the game against Thailand Thailand S. (#1) into a double-overtime, but lost by seven points 76-83 on Sunday night. Philippine Patriots were trailing by 2 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 15-13 charge of Thailand S., which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in double-overtime eventually winning that period 19-12. 27 personal fouls committed by Philippine Patriots helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Jason Dixon (205-73, college: Liberty) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points and 15 rebounds. Cameroonian swingman Chris Kuete (195-83) contributed with 19 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four Thailand S. players scored in double figures. American forward Steve Thomas (203-81, college: Middle Tenn.St.) answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 22 rebounds and the other American import forward Gabe Freeman (198-85, college: Costa Mesa JC) added 20 points and 16 rebounds in the effort for Philippine Patriots. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Thailand S. maintains first place with 10-4 record. Philippine Patriots at the other side keep the second position with six games lost. They share it with KL Dragons. Thailand S. are looking forward to face Satria Muda (#5) in Jakarta in the next round. Philippine Patriots will play at home against the league's second-placed KL Dragons in Kuala Lumpur and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
