Very predictable result when fifth ranked EWE Baskets (11-7) won against bottom-ranked Gloria Giants (2-14) in Duesseldorf 77-65 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 8-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 77-65. EWE Baskets outrebounded Gloria Giants 40-17 including a 31-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Australian-New Zealand center Aron Baynes (208-86, college: Washington St.) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds. Bosnian power forward Oliver Stevic (204-84) contributed with 12 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Lithuanian forward Laimonas Kisielius (203-85, college: William & Mary) answered with 18 points and Canadian forward Ransford Brempong (203-81, college: W.Carolina) added 10 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Gloria Giants. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. EWE Baskets moved-up to fourth place. Gloria Giants lost their sixth game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with 14 games lost. EWE Baskets will face league's second-placed Deutsche Bank Skyliners in Frankfurt in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gloria Giants will play at home against Eisbaeren Bremerhaven (#9).
