Regular Season Round 41: Rio Grande VV - Austin T. 103-81
Date: January 7, 2011
Nit-picky stuff. Those are about the only faults Rio Grande Valley Vipers coach Chris Finch could find with his team’s effort in its 103-81 shellacking of the Austin Toros on Friday at State Farm Arena. The Vipers (10-7) won their third-straight for the first time this season. The Toros (7-10) lost their fifth in a row. The same teams meet again at 7 tonight at State Farm Arena. “It was some of our most purposeful basketball, certainly in the beginning,” Finch said. “That looked like the way we want to play — run and move it and shoot a lot of wide-open shots, especially threes. We were physical, and we haven’t always been physical this year.” The Vipers shot 50 percent (36 of 72) from the field, including 9 of 28 from the 3-point arc. The most telling statistic was the fast break points, in which the Vipers held a 20-4 advantage. “When you are running and the shots are going in,” Finch said. “Everyone plays with a little extra zip.” Vipers guard Mustafa Shakur had 23 points and seven assists, both game-highs. Jerel McNeal had 21 points and was 4 of 4 from the 3-point arc. Jeff Adrien had 14 points and 13 rebounds for his fifth double-double this season. *Courtesy of www.themonitor.com
