Regular Season Round 23: Triobet - Akademija 80-75

Very expected game when 14th ranked Akademija (5-17) lost to eighth ranked Triobet Malsta (9-13) in Jonava 75-80. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. It looked good early as Akademija took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Triobet Malsta had a 20-15 second period charge getting the lead and Akademija was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 75-80. Triobet Malsta forced 25 Akademija turnovers. Strangely Akademija outrebounded Triobet Malsta 41-29 including 16 on the offensive glass. 34 personal fouls committed by Akademija helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was guard Tadas Sebeziovas (183-85) who scored 16 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). Guard Audrius Vasiliauskas (185-82) chipped in 13 points. Triobet Malsta's coach Kestutis Narusevicius allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Forward Tomas Lekunas (195-93) produced 22 points and guard Karolis Alekna (183-91) added 21 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Despite that victory Triobet Malsta went down to ninth position due to points difference, which they share with Silute. Akademija lost their fourth game in a row. They dropped to the bottom place with 17 games lost. Triobet Malsta's next round opponent will be higher ranked Perlas-MRU (#8) in Vilnius and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Akademija will play at home against Mazeikiai (#5).
