Very significant was Malaysian KL Dragons' (#3, 8-6) victory against second-ranked Filipino Philippine Patriots (8-6) 92-74. Philippine Patriots were ahead by 7 points at the halftime before a 50-25 second half run of KL Dragons. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Philippine Patriots' 34. Strangely Philippine Patriots outrebounded KL Dragons 45-32 including a 17-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. American-Jamaican forward Justin Leith (201-81, college: Merrimack) notched 29 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and Filipino guard Rudy Lingganay (173) supported him with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Four KL Dragons players scored in double figures. Even 9 points and 19 rebounds by American forward Steve Thomas (203-81, college: Middle Tenn.St.) did not help to save the game for Philippine Patriots. Guard Egay Billones (175-75) added 23 points for the hosts. Philippine Patriots' coach rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. KL Dragons moved-up to second place, which they share with Philip.Patriots. KL Dragons will play against bottom-ranked Barracudas (#6) in Bandar Seri in the next round. Philippine Patriots will play on the road against Satria Muda (#5) in Jakarta and hope to get back on the winning track.
