Regular Season Round 11: Vitoria SC - Lusitania 87-79

Very predictable result in Guimaraes where fourth ranked Vitoria SC (7-4) defeated 10th ranked Lusitania (3-8) 87-79 on Sunday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-14. But Lusitania won second period 23-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vitoria SC looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was American center Kevin Martin (208-83, college: Florida Gulf Coast) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds. His fellow American import forward Kyle Austin (203-88, college: Cal-Riverside) chipped in 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Vitoria SC's coach Fernando Sa used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Terrence Hundley (191-85, college: W.Georgia) produced 23 points and 8 rebounds and guard Daniel Monteiro (182-82) added 21 points and 6 assists respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Vitoria SC has a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Academica. Lusitania lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the eleventh position with eight games lost. Vitoria SC will meet at home league's leader FC Porto Ferpinta in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Lusitania will play against Barreirense (#12) in Barreiro and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
