D1 top team - Okapi Aalstar (12-2) added another victory to their record on Saturday. This time they beat eighth ranked VOO Verviers-Pepinster (3-10) 75-69. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But VOO Verviers-Pepinster won third quarter 17-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Okapi Aalstar dominated on the defensive end, holding VOO Verviers-Pepinster to just 7 points in second quarter. They made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. They outrebounded VOO Verviers-Pepinster 38-27 including 29 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Lithuanian power forward Christopher Young (206-79, college: Michigan, agency: Court Side) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). American swingman Anthony Hilliard (193-86, college: Elizabeth City) contributed with 18 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. American guard Stefon Jackson (196-85, college: UTEP) replied with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds and his fellow American import forward Brandon Gay (203-82, college: San Diego, agency: Edge Sports) added 13 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for VOO Verviers-Pepinster. Okapi Aalstar has a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 12-2 record. VOO Verviers-Pepinster at the other side keeps the eighth place with ten games lost. Okapi Aalstar are looking forward to face Belgacom Liege (#6) at home in the next round where they are favorite. VOO Verviers-Pepinster will play against Optima Gent and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
