Regular Season Round 24: Panasonic T. - Tochigi Brex 79-78

Sixth-ranked Tochigi Brex (8-16) was very close to win a game against third ranked Panasonic Trians (16-8) in Osaka. Panasonic Trians managed to secure only one-point victory 79-78. However their fans expected easier game. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Tochigi Brex won third quarter 22-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Panasonic Trians won last quarter 21-22. They made 18-of-21 charity shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international center Fumihiko Aono (210-78) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 6 rebounds and American forward Ace Custis (202-74, college: Virginia Tech, agency: Higher Vision Sports) who added 12 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Four Panasonic Trians players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was international guard Takuya Kawamura (193-86) with 19 points and 6 rebounds and American center Scott Merritt (208-82, college: Marquette) scored 11 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Panasonic Trians have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 16-8 record having just three points less than leader Aishin. Tochigi Brex lost sixth consecutive game. Defending champion keeps the sixth place with 16 games lost. They share the position with Mitsubishi. Panasonic Trians will play against Toshiba Thunders (#4) in Kanagawa in the next round. Tochigi Brex will play at home against Hokkaido in Saporro and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
