Date: February 1, 2011
Forward Othyus Jeffers scored 26 points and pulled in 10 rebounds, but it wasn't enough as the Iowa Energy lost to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers 135-128 Tuesday night. The Vipers broke open a tight game midway through the 3rd period thanks to a 14-3 run that put them 82-73. A Jeff Adrien layup early in the 4th quarter extended Rio Grande Valley's lead to 17 points, their largest of the night. With 6:18 remaining in the game and the Vipers up 119-106, Iowa went on a 12-0 run capped by a Jeffers layup to narrow the margin to one point. With the game teetering in the balance, the Vipers' Mohammed Faye drilled a 3-pointer from the top of the key to extend the Rio Grande Valley lead back to four points. Iowa would get no closer than three points the rest of the game, as the Vipers won their second consecutive game against the Energy.
