NBA
Regular Season Round 104: Dallas M. - Cleveland C. 99-96
Date: February 7, 2011
The Dallas Mavericks relegated the Cleveland Cavaliers to unwanted history on Monday night at American Airlines Center but not before the NBA's worst team threw a scare into the league's hottest team. A 17-point second-quarter Mavs lead was erased when the Cavs pulled even two minutes into the final quarter. The Mavs eked out a 99-96 victory when the Cavaliers missed a shot in the final seconds. The Mavs (36-15) ran their winning streak to nine games while saddling the Cavs (8-44) with their 25th consecutive loss. Already owning the longest NBA losing streak during a single season, Monday night's defeat banished from the record books the 24-game losing streak that the Cavs' ancestors needed parts of two seasons to establish in 1982. With the win, the Mavs keep their half-game lead over the Los Angeles Lakers for second place in the Western Conference. They now return to the road beginning with Wednesday night's visit to Sacramento. Small forward Peja Stojakovic made his first appearance since being signed by Dallas on Jan. 24. He started and played 20 minutes, recording eight points and five rebounds. In his first NBA action since last November, he hit one of six three-point attempts. The Mavs were led in scoring by reserves Jason Terry (23) and Shawn Marion (17 points). Also of note off the bench, Ian Mahinmi contributed 11 points and eight rebounds in 21 minutes. *Courtesy of www.miamiherald.com
