Regular Season Round 21: Gornik - LKS Lodz 72-84

There was no surprise in Walbrzych where 14th ranked Gornik (5-15) was defeated by seventh ranked LKS Sphinx (13-8) 84-72 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by LKS Sphinx. Gornik was better in third quarter 22-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. LKS Sphinx looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was guard Bartlomiej Szczepaniak (187-81) who scored 23 points and 6 assists. Forward Marcin Salamonik (202-83) chipped in 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Four LKS Sphinx players scored in double figures. LKS Sphinx's coach Piotr Zych used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Marcin Sterenga (201-78) who recorded 21 points and 8 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and swingman Marcin Wrobel (200-87) added 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks respectively. LKS Sphinx maintains seventh place with 13-8 record. Loser Gornik keeps the fourteenth position with 15 games lost. LKS Sphinx will face league's leader AZS Politechnika Warszawska in Warszawa in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gornik will play on the road against AZS Szczecin (#10) and be promoted back to the PLK just one year after relegation.
