The Brazilian champions Uniceub/BRB celebrated the first win at the second stage of Liga Americas. They held off Halcones Xalapa in Group F opener in Corrientes. Nezinho dos Santos provided 22 points to lead the charge. The lead changed hands for several times throughout the starting period. Finally Uniceub/BRB pulled ahead to post a 25:21 lead. The Brazilian side maintained the advantage throughout the second term. They recorded a 43:40 lead at halftime. Leandro Garcia Morales and Louis Roe helped the Mexican team to erase the deficit in the third period. Xalapa entered the fourth quarter up by a single point 57:56. But Uniceub/BRB returned the lead and hung on in the final seconds to snatch a narrow victory. Alexandre Garcia had 19 points for Uniceub/BRB. Marcio Cipriano netted 15 points in the win. Leandro Garcia Morales replied with game-high 24 points. Orlando Mendez-Valdez produced 16 points in the losing effort.
