Second Stage Round 1: Gussing - BC Vienna 91-90

Important game to mention about took place in Gussing. Third ranked Gussing Knights (9-14) saved a 1-point victory at home edging their biggest opponent BC Vienna (9-14) 91-90 on Saturday evening. It looked good early as BC Vienna took an 7-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Gussing Knights had a 29-13 second period charge getting the lead and BC Vienna was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 90-91. Gussing Knights players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. American forward Marcus Heard (201-84, college: De Paul) nailed a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds for the winning side and guard Thomas Klepeisz (185-91) accounted for 14 points and 11 assists. Heard is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. The former international guard Stjepan Stazic (199-78, agency: World Sport Agency) came up with 30 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and Bosnian-Croatian center Alen Trepalovac (214-85, agency: KMG Sports Management) added 18 points and 12 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) respectively for BC Vienna in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Despite that victory Gussing Knights went down to fourth position (Bundesliga) due to points difference. Gussing Knights will play against league's second-placed Raiffeisen Wels on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. BC Vienna will play against Worthersee Piraten in Klagenfurt and hopes to get back on the winning track.
