Regular Season Round 13: Dinamo Tbilisi - MIA Academy 68-96
Date: February 12, 2011
Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Tbilisi: MIA (#2) and Dinamo Tbilisi (#11). Dinamo Tbilisi was crushed at home by 28 points 68-96. The game was mostly controlled by MIA. Dinamo Tbilisi was better in third quarter 23-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Dinamo Tbilisi to just 4 points in first quarter. They outrebounded Dinamo Tbilisi 50-33 including 35 on the defensive glass. MIA looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Forward Soso Shermadini (208-85) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds for the winners and guard Beka Tsivtsivadze (190-89) chipped in 10 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. At the losing side forward Irakli Alkhanaidze (202-92) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds and guard Guga Pataraia (180-89) scored 15 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for MIA. They maintain second place with 10-3 record behind leader Army. Dinamo Tbilisi lost their twelfth game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost. MIA will face Batumi (#7) at home in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Dinamo Tbilisi's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tbilisi to the arena GSAU.
