Finals Game 1: Thailand S. - Philip.Patriots 66-58

The top-ranked Thailand Slammers drew first blood in the ASEAN League Finals. They held off Philippine Patriots in Game 1 of the best-of-three championship series. Chris Kuete scored 18 points and pulled down 8 rebounds to lead the charge. Gabe Freeman opened the game with a three-pointer and the Patriots led for the bigger part of the starting quarter. But Chris Kuete came up with a pair of baskets late in the first term to put the Slammers in front 15:14. Chris Kuete and Ardy Larong stretched the lead to 9 points late in the second term 29:20. The visitors got closer but still trailed by 6 points at halftime 28:34. Jason Dixon and Attaporn Lertmalaiporn gave the home team a 10-point cushion midway through the third term. But the Patriots reacted with a 16:3 rally to ensure a 44:41 lead late in the quarter. Baguion Froilan nailed four points to level things up at 47. The hosts strongly entered the fourth quarter and boosted the margin to 11 points 60:49. The Patriots never recovered in the reminder of the clash and surrendered at the end. Jason Dixon notched 14 points and 13 boards for the Slammers. Ardy Larong netted 12 points in the victory. Gabe Freeman answered with 16 points and 11 boards for the Patriots. Erwin Santa Maria and Steve Thomas registered 11 points each. Game 2 of the series is scheduled for February 19.
