Regular Season Round 17: Marousi - Kavala 76-63
Date: February 13, 2011
Rather expected game when 5th ranked Kavala (9-8) was defeated on the road by third ranked Marousi (11-6) 76-63 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Marousi. Kavala managed to win third quarter 20-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Kavala 46-29 including 16 on the offensive glass. The former international forward Nestor Kommatos (203-77) stepped up and scored 26 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and Croatian center Dalibor Bagaric (217-80) chipped in 15 points and 15 rebounds. Marousi's coach Vangelis Alexandris used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American power forward Cedric Simmons (206-86, college: N.Carolina St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds and Serbian forward Branko Jorovic (205-81, agency: Beo Basket) scored 19 points and 6 rebounds. Marousi maintains third place with 11-6 record having six points less than leader Olympiakos. Loser Kavala keeps the fifth position with eight games lost. They share it with Aris. Marousi will meet league's leader Olympiakos in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Kavala will play against the league's second-placed Panathinaikos (#2) in Athens and hope to secure a win.
