Very important is a road loss of third ranked Grindavik (12-6) against fifth ranked Stjarnan (10-8) on Monday night. Visiting Grindavik was defeated by Stjarnan in a tough game in Stjarnan 70-79. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 27-14. But Grindavik won second period 14-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Stjarnan made 17-of-20 charity shots (85.0 percent) during the game. It was a good game for American-Estonian forward Renato Lindmets (198-84, college: Westfield St., agency: Tank Sports) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 14 rebounds. Guard Daniel Guamundsson (186-86) contributed with 22 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. American-Italian power forward Ryan Pettinella (206-84, college: Cincinnati) replied with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds and American guard Kevin Sims (178-88, college: Tulane, agency: Strategic Sports) added 12 points in the effort for Grindavik. Five Stjarnan and four Grindavik players scored in double figures. Grindavik's coach Helgi Jonas Gudfinnsson rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Stjarnan have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 10-8 record. Grindavik lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the fourth place with six games lost. Stjarnan will play against IR (#7) in Reykjavik in the next round. Grindavik will play at home against Hamar and hopes to get back on the winning track.
