Regular Season Round 17: UL Eagles - UCC Demons 78-85

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked UL Eagles (12-4) in Limerick on Wednesday night. Hosts were defeated by second ranked UCC Demons (11-5) 85-78. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of UL Eagles. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. UCC Demons shot 69.4 percent from the field. They outrebounded UL Eagles 37-26 including 29 on the defensive glass. American power forward Marcus Van (201-85, college: Cent.Michigan) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 19 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners and guard Ciaran O'Sullivan (193-90) chipped in 25 points. Four UCC Demons players scored in double figures. The former international guard Scott Kinevane (175-87) responded with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists and American-Welsh guard Matthew Hall (186-75, college: Earlham) scored 19 points. UCC Demons maintains second place with 11-5 record having just three points less than leader UL Eagles. UL Eagles at the other side still keep top position with four games lost. UCC Demons are looking forward to face league's leader Dart Killester in Dublin in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. UL Eagles will play at home against Ulster Elks and are hoping to win this game.
