Regular Season Round 34: Shiga L-Stars - Okinawa GK 84-91

BJ League round 34 most important game was a victory of Okinawa GK over their biggest opponent Shiga Lakestars 91-84 on Saturday night. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Shiga Lakestars trailed by 17 points at halftime and as many as 21 after three quarters before a 37-23 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 84-91 at the end of the game. Okinawa GK forced 21 Shiga Lakestars turnovers. Strangely Shiga Lakestars outrebounded Okinawa GK 52-35 including 22 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American players dominated the game. Worth to mention a great performance of center Jeff Newton (205-81, college: Indiana) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. Swingman Carlos Dixon (202-81, college: Virginia Tech, agency: Strategic Sports) contributed with 22 points and 5 assists for the winners. Power forward Gary Hamilton (208-84, college: Miami (FL)) replied with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 19 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Josh Peppers (201-85, college: Cent.Florida, agency: Court Side) added 23 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Shiga Lakestars. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Okinawa GK (20-13) moved-up to second place. Shiga Lakestars lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the third position with 14 games lost. Okinawa GK will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Shiga Lakestars will play again at home against the league's second-placed Okinawa GK and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
