Leader Barcelos delivered the thirteenth victory on Saturday night. This time they beat 9th ranked Guifoes (5-10) 70-58. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 8-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 70-58. Barcelos outrebounded Guifoes 48-35 including a 38-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Barcelos made 7 blocks. It was a great evening for guard Nuno Pedroso (187-79) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. The former international forward Pedro Silva (198-79) helped adding 11 points, 17 rebounds and 5 blocks. The best for the losing side was Angolan forward Joao Gaspar (196-89) with 13 points and 9 rebounds and naturalized Cape Verdean forward Odair Conceicao (197-84) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Barcelos. They maintain first place with 13-2 record. Newly promoted Guifoes keep the ninth position with ten games lost. Barcelos will meet at home Angrabasket (#5) in the next round. Guifoes will play against Electrico FC (#8) in Ponte de Sor and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
