Khimky (#2) forced the game against Unics Kazan (#1) into an overtime, but lost by nine points 66-75 on Saturday night. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Khimky. Khimky was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 7-point lead after three quarters before a 21-14 charge of Unics Kazan, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 15-6. Unics Kazan made 22-of-26 free shots (84.6 percent) during the game. 24 personal fouls committed by Khimky helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for Polish-Swedish center Maciej Lampe (210-85) who led his team to a victory with 19 points and 6 rebounds. Croatian guard Marko Popovic (185-82, college: S.Idaho JC) contributed with 13 points and 7 assists for the winners. Four Unics Kazan players scored in double figures. American swingman Keith Langford (193-83, college: Kansas) answered with 21 points and naturalized Greek center Lazaros Papadopoulos (210-80, agency: INVICTUS Sports Group) added 7 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Khimky. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Unics Kazan have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 11-3 record. Khimky at the other side dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. Unics Kazan are looking forward to face Spartak St.Petersburg (#5) on the road in the next round. Khimky will play against BC Nizhny Novgorod and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
