A1 top team - Athinaikos (17-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they beat seventh ranked Apollon (9-8) in Ptolemaida 64-46. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Apollon. The game was mostly controlled by Athinaikos. Apollon was better in second period 14-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Apollon to just 6 points in third and fourth quarters. Belarusian center Marina Kress (192-80) nailed 14 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and American center Ruth Riley (196-79, college: Notre Dame) accounted for 14 points. Athinaikos' coach Ioannis Ktistakis used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Kaili McLaren (188-88, college: Connecticut) came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds and Serbian guard Tamara Ruzic (181-79, college: Charleston So., agency: Global Sports Plaza) added 8 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Apollon in the defeat. Athinaikos have an impressive series of seventeen victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 17-0 record. Apollon at the other side dropped to the sixth position with eight games lost. They share it with Panionios and FEA Neas. Athinaikos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens Panathinaikos.
