Regular Season Round 41: Levice - Handlova 86-74 OT

Handlova (#6) forced the game against Levice (#3) into an overtime, but lost by twelve points 74-86 on Saturday night. The game was mostly controlled by Levice. Handlova was better in second period 23-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Handlova used huge pressure winning it 23-20 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 4-16. Levice forced 24 Handlova turnovers. Strangely Handlova outrebounded Levice 45-33 including 16 on the offensive glass. Handlova was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American swingman Mike English (194-82, college: UMKC) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 steals. Slovenian guard Tadej Kostomaj (186-87) contributed with 18 points and 9 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for the winners. Five Levice players scored in double figures. Croatian power forward Nenad Delic (210-84) answered with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 16 rebounds and the former international guard Juraj Gavlak (185-79) added 14 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals in the effort for Handlova. Levice maintains third place with 19-17 record having seven points less than leader Nitra, which they share with Komarno. Loser Handlova keeps the sixth position with 29 games lost. Levice will face SKP Banska Bystrica (#8) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Handlova will play against Komarno and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
