Seventh ranked Maccabi Ashdod won an overtime thriller against 5th ranked Galil Gilboa by one point 100-99 on Saturday night. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Galil Gilboa. The hosts trailed by 8 points after three quarters before their 29-21 charge, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time and get a 1-point victory in overtime. Maccabi Ashdod had a 15-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Galil Gilboa was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American power forward Josh Duncan (204-86) who had a double-double by scoring 28 points and 11 rebounds. The other American import swingman Josh Carter (201-88, college: Texas A&M) chipped in 19 points and 8 assists. Four Maccabi Ashdod players scored in double figures. International guard Gal Mekel (195-88, college: Wichita St.) produced 17 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals and American forward Tyler Wilkerson (203-88, college: Marshall) added 18 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Newly promoted Maccabi Ashdod maintains seventh position with 9-11 record. Defending champion Galil Gilboa dropped to the fourth place with nine games lost. Maccabi Ashdod will face Maccabi Haifa (#9) on the road in the next round. Galil Gilboa will play against Elitzur Netanya (#8).
