An interesting game for Mineros de Cananea (8-2) which played road game in Culiacan against 3rd ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (6-4). First ranked Mineros de Cananea managed to get a 6-point victory 89-83. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 30-21. But Caballeros de Culiacan won third quarter 22-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely Caballeros de Culiacan outrebounded Mineros de Cananea 45-28 including 31 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Mineros de Cananea made 10 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Davin White (186-81, college: Cal.St. Northridge) who helped to win the game recording 23 points, 8 assists and 5 steals. The other American import forward Derek Thomas (193-84, college: Appalachian St.) contributed with 26 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. American guard Kevin Sowell (190-81) replied with 28 points and the former international center Victor Avila (210-77, college: Oklahoma) added 11 points and 14 rebounds in the effort for Caballeros de Culiacan. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Mineros de Cananea have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 8-2 record, which they share with Hermosillo. Caballeros de Culiacan lost fourth consecutive game. Defending champion dropped to the fourth place with four games lost. They share the position with Tijuana and Nogales. Mineros de Cananea is looking forward to face Coras de Tepic (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
