Regular Season Round 10: Guasave - Mexicali 101-94
Date: March 26, 2011
Very expected game when 8th ranked Bomberos de Mexicali (4-6) lost on the road to fourth ranked Frayles de Guasave (7-3) 101-94 on Saturday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 30-20. But Bomberos de Mexicali won second period 24-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Frayles de Guasave looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American guard Rasheem Barrett (196-87, college: Auburn, agency: SportsList Inc.) notched 28 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the effort and the other American import guard William Funn (188-82, college: Portland St.) supported him with 23 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. Funn is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Five Frayles de Guasave players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 35 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds (made all of his thirteen free throws !!!) by American forward Travis Gabbidon (201, college: UTSA) did not help to save the game for Bomberos de Mexicali. The former international guard Richard Lopez (192-78, college: Cal.Baptist) added 23 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists for lost side. Bomberos de Mexicali's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Frayles de Guasave moved-up to third place. Loser Bomberos de Mexicali dropped to the seventh position with six games lost. They share it with Guaymas. Frayles de Guasave will meet at home Caballeros de Culiacan (#4) in the next round. Bomberos de Mexicali will play against Tijuana Zonkeys and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
