Regular Season Round 111: Tulsa 66ers - Rio Grande VV 94-100
Date: March 26, 2011
The Tulsa 66ers rallied to within two points in the fourth quarter but could not quite get over the hump as they lost to defending league champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers 100-94 on Saturday night at the Tulsa Convention Center. Tulsa finished the game with a plus-nine turnover margin, but the Vipers were hot from the field, hitting 11-of-27 from beyond the 3-point arc. “We didn’t turn the ball over a ton, but Rio Grande Valley does a great job spacing the floor and they made a lot of shots,” said Tulsa head coach Nate Tibbetts. With their second loss in as many nights, Tulsa (31-17) trails Rio Grande Valley and Reno by a half-game in the Western Conference standings with two games left in the regular season. “We would love to win the conference, but we have bigger goals down the road,” Tibbetts said. After Ryan Reid scored consecutive baskets for the 66ers to tie the game 29-29 at the end of the first quarter, the Vipers opened up the second with three straight 3-pointers, including two by Mouhammad Faye who scored 13 of his 20 points in the quarter. Jerel McNeal scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Vipers. *Courtesy of www.tulsaworld.com
