Regular Season Round 11: Guasave - Culiacan 89-98

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Frayles de Guasave (7-4) against fourth ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (7-4) on Tuesday night. Host Frayles de Guasave was defeated by Caballeros de Culiacan in a tough game in Guasave 89-98. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Frayles de Guasave. The guests were already 13 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 28-24 Frayles de Guasave's run in the last quarter cut the lead to 98-89 at the end of the game. Caballeros de Culiacan players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 11 blocks. It was a great evening for American guard Kevin Sowell (190-81) who led his team to a victory scoring 41 points (!!!) and 5 assists. His fellow American import swingman Joel Leroy Webb (201-82, college: Bellevue, agency: 011 Sports) helped adding 19 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Sowell is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Cameroonian forward Serge Angounou (202-83, college: Arizona St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and American guard William Funn (188-82, college: Portland St.) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points, 5 rebounds and 11 assists. Five Caballeros de Culiacan and four Frayles de Guasave players scored in double figures. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Guasave. Caballeros de Culiacan will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Frayles de Guasave will play again at home against Caballeros de Culiacan and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
