There was no surprise when 5th ranked Basketbal Svitavy (7-20) was defeated on the road by second ranked BC Kolin (13-14) 89-81 on Wednesday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Basketbal Svitavy won third quarter 21-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. BC Kolin made 32-of-39 free shots (82.1 percent) during the game, while Basketbal Svitavy only scored nine points from the stripe. They outrebounded Basketbal Svitavy 43-31 including 28 on the offensive glass. Basketbal Svitavy was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. Forward David Machac (204-80) fired a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. American guard Terry Smith (185-86, college: Mercyhurst) chipped in 22 points. Power forward Ladislav Horak (205-86) produced 21 points and American guard Ravone George (193-83, college: Alabama) added 18 points respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Basketbal Svitavy's coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. BC Kolin maintains second place in A2 with 13-14 record having just three points less than leader B&W Opava. Newly promoted Basketbal Svitavy keeps the fifth position with 20 games lost. BC Kolin will face Basketbol Brno (#4) on the road in the next round. Basketbal Svitavy will play against USK Praha and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
