The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Capitanes (1-1) in Arecibo on Saturday night. Hosts were edged by Isabela (2-0) 75-73. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Capitanes. It was a key game for the top position in the league as both teams had the same 1-0 record before this meeting. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Capitanes won third quarter 22-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Isabela won last quarter 17-17. They also forced 20 Capitanes turnovers. The best player for the winners was American forward Shavlik Randolph (208-83, college: Duke) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Lewis Clinch (191-87, college: Georgia Tech) chipped in 18 points and 6 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Rafael Cruz (187-79, college: Youngstown St.) who recorded 14 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals and American-Panamanian guard Danilo Pinnock (196-83, college: George Washington, agency: SportsTalent) added 12 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Five Capitanes players scored in double figures. Capitanes' coach David Rosario tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Isabela keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Coamo. Capitanes at the other side dropped to the third place with one game lost. They share the position with 4 other teams. Isabela is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Mayaguez (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Capitanes will play against San German (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
