Regular Season Round 164: Sacramento K. - LA Lakers 108-116 OT
Date: April 13, 2011
The Los Angeles Lakers clinched the number two seed in the NBA Western Conference Wednesday night but they had to work pretty hard to get it as they blew a double digit lead in the fourth quarter against the Sacramento Kings at the Power Balance Pavilion and had to play an extra period to win the contest by a final tally of 116-108. The Lakers ended the regular season tied with the Dallas Mavericks but Los Angeles had the tie breaker and got the higher seed. They will face the New Orleans Hornets this weekend in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. Kobe Bryant had a game high 36 points while Lamar Odom starting instead of the injured Andrew Bynum had another 22 in the victory. If this was the final game to be played in the city of Sacramento than the Kings and the fans at Power Balance Pavilion did themselves proud as they went out fighting for the victory on the floor and the fans in the stands encouraged the team loudly with cheers, screams and cowbells. The combination almost got the Kings the upset victory as they outscored their opponents by 18 points in the fourth to force the overtime. However they did not have enough gas left in the tank to get the win. Marcus Thornton led the way for the Kings as he knocked down 33 points in the Kings last game of the campaign. An announcement from the Maloof Brothers of where the team will play next season is expected within days and it appears that Anaheim has the inside track. *Courtesy of www.slamdunkcentral.com
