Rookie Gordon Hayward scored a career-high 34 points and hit five 3-pointers to give the host Utah Jazz a 107-103 victory over playoff-bound Denver in the season finale for both teams Wednesday night. The game meant little to the Nuggets, who already had locked up the Western Conference's No. 5 seed and rested many of their players. They probably wish they had sat starting guard Ty Lawson as well. He had to be helped off the court after spraining his left ankle, but he left the arena without crutches or a boot. Hayward, the former Brownsburg High School star who led Butler to the NCAA title game last season, hit 12-of-17 from the field, including 5-of-6 on 3s and scored the most points by a Jazz rookie since Jerry Eaves had 35 on March 16, 1983, at Detroit. "I don't feel like a rookie anymore after 82 games," said Hayward, who also made 5-of-5 free throws. "It's really good going into the offseason to have these last games in my back pocket.
