Regular Season Round 21: Culiacan - Tepic 81-71

Date: April 15, 2011
No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (12-9) beat at home 9th ranked Coras de Tepic (4-17) 81-71 on Friday. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Caballeros de Culiacan made 10 blocks. Naturalized American forward Quentin Gonzalez (200-84, college: McNeese St.) nailed a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side and American guard Rene Rougeau (198-86, college: UNLV) accounted for 22 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Caballeros de Culiacan players scored in double figures. Caballeros de Culiacan's coach Jonathan Meza used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga, agency: Dream Team Management) came up with 33 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds and the other American import swingman Cleotis Brown (198-77, college: Illinois, agency: Dream Team Management) added 18 points and 7 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) respectively for Coras de Tepic in the defeat. Caballeros de Culiacan have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Guasave. Loser Coras de Tepic keeps the ninth position with 17 games lost. Caballeros de Culiacan will again meet at home Coras de Tepic (#9) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Coras de Tepic will have a break next round.
