Regular Season Round 49: Dnipro - Halychyna 87-78

No shocking result in a game when seventh ranked Dnipro (24-23) beat 10th ranked Halychyna (17-31) in Dnepropetrovsk 87-78 on Friday. Halychyna trailed by 13 points after 3 quarters before a 27-23 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 78-87 at the end of the game. Dnipro dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Halychyna's 36 and made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Dnipro looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Dnipro made 8 blocks. It was a very good performance for American guard Steve Burtt (185-84, college: Iona) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 24 points, 7 rebounds and 11 assists (made all of his nine free throws !!!). Canadian forward Denham Brown (198-83, college: Connecticut, agency: Edge Sports) contributed with 16 points for the winners. American forward Alan Wiggins (206-85, college: USF) answered with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import guard Todd Abernethy (185-84, college: Mississippi) added 20 points and 6 assists in the effort for Halychyna. Four Halychyna players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Dnipro moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Ferro-ZNTU. Loser Halychyna dropped to the eleventh position with 31 games lost. Dnipro will face higher ranked Hoverla (#4) in Frankivsk in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
