Regular Season Round 22: Culiacan - Tepic 85-81

Date: April 16, 2011
Very predictable result when fourth ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (13-9) defeated at home 9th ranked Coras de Tepic (4-18) 85-81 on Saturday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 32-20. But Coras de Tepic won third quarter 25-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Caballeros de Culiacan made 8 blocks. Marcus Moore fired 32 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Naturalized American forward Quentin Gonzalez (200-84, college: McNeese St.) chipped in 21 points and 8 rebounds. Caballeros de Culiacan's coach Jonathan Meza allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga, agency: Dream Team Management) produced a double-double by scoring 24 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and his fellow American import guard James Parker (188-81, college: Robert Morris) added 21 points respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Caballeros de Culiacan have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to third place. Loser Coras de Tepic keeps the ninth position with 18 games lost. Caballeros de Culiacan will meet at home bottom-ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Coras de Tepic will play against Frayles de Guasave and hope to secure a win.
