Panathinaikos (#2) forced the game against Olympiakos (#1) into an overtime, but lost by four points 83-87 on Saturday night. It ended at the same time the 12-game winning streak of Panathinaikos. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Panathinaikos won fourth quarter 24-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Panathinaikos used huge pressure winning it 24-16 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 7-11. Olympiakos made 30-of-36 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 21 Panathinaikos turnovers. Panathinaikos was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of Israeli guard Yotam Halperin (196-84) who helped to win the game recording 25 points. Serbian guard Milos Teodosic (195-87) contributed with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. The former international guard Dimitris Diamantidis (196-80) answered with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists and international swingman Stratos Perperoglou (203-84) added 15 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Panathinaikos. Five Panathinaikos players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Olympiakos (25-0) have an impressive series of twenty five victories in a row. They maintain first place with a perfect record of 25 victories in a row. Defending champion Panathinaikos keeps the second position with two games lost. Olympiakos will face bottom-ranked Iraklis (#14) in Thessaloniki in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Panathinaikos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens Panellinios.
