The New Zealand Breakers put aside their Game-One yips to take the early advantage in their iiNet NBL Championship final series against the Cairns Taipans, prevailing 85-67 at the North Shore Events Centre on Wednesday. After dominating the regular season, the table-topping Breakers had fallen on their faces in the opening encounter of the semifinals against Perth, but resolved that would not happen again with the title on the line, They proved as good as their word, grabbing control of the contest with 17 unanswered points in the first half to continue their season-long dominance of the Snakes. New Zealand’s advantage grew as big as 31 points in the third quarter, but they were forced the whether a determined comeback that brought their guests back to within 17 down the stretch. Breakers shooter Kirk Penney ran hot in the second half to led all scorers with 25 points, while Ian Crosswhite was the best of the Taipans with 15.
