Regular Season Round 24: Near East - Olimpiada 96-82

Bottom-ranked Near East managed to get a fifth victory, breaking the eight-game losing streak. This time they won against eleventh-ranked Olimpiada in Kesariani 96-82. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Olimpiada. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Near East's pressure prevailed and they won that period 28-21 extending their advantage to 14 points. They shot the lights out from three nailing 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. The winners were led by Serbian guard Milan Stanojevic (188-86, college: E.Washington) who scored that evening 20 points and the former international guard Filippos Moschovitis (190-78) supported him with 11 points and 4 assists. Near East's coach Apostolis Hatzigiannakos allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even a double-double of 27 points and 17 rebounds by center Apostolos Koutroulias (206-76) did not help to save the game for Olimpiada. Guard Sakis Veskoukis (195-80) added 16 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Near East maintains sixteenth position with 5-19 record. Olimpiada at the other side dropped to the tenth place with 14 games lost. They share the position with AEK/Argous and Periko/Arhelaos. Near East will play against higher ranked Lavrio (#3) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Olimpiada will play against Koroivos (#15) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
