Semi-Finals Game 2: Den Bosch - Groningen 72-58

Date: May 3, 2011
Tuesday night in the DBL semifinals, both ZZ Leiden and Eiffel Towers got back on track, evening the series at 1-1, with ZZ Leiden pulling out a close one in the Horstacker over Magixx Kidsright, and Eiffel Towers pulling away from defending Dutch champion Gas Terra Flames in the last four minutes. In the Maaspoort, Eiffel Towers jumped out to a sizable lead in the 1st half, averted a Gas Terra Flames comeback, but clutch baskets by shaprshooter Kees Akerboom in crunch time took the wind out of the defending champions' sails, helping Eiffel to even the series and win 72-58. Eiffel led at one point in the 2nd quarter 27-11 and their zone defense gave the Flames troble, who missed lots of open shots. Neither team would shoot the ball well (Eiffel 6 of 27 from the three-point line, the Flames 35% FG, 6 of 12 FT), but Eiffel valued their possessions better (only 4 turnovers) and got the job done in drawing more fouls (22 of 28 FT's). The Flames duo of league MVP Jason Dourisseau and Matt Haraysz did their best to keep it for the Flames within striking distance (62-56 with 1:22 remaining), but an Akerboom three-point dagger was lethal. From there on Eiffel closed out the game with canning their free throws. Kees Akerboom (200-F-83, agency: Court Side) led all scorers with 23 pts. The Flames, who once again held a huge rebounding edge (57-41, 23 offensive rebounds), were led by Bostain with 14 pts. The team of Eiffel head coach Raoul Korner will take their act to Groningen on Thursday for Game #3. *by Sanders Jackson
