An interesting game for Wellington S. (6-0) which played road game in Hamilton against 4th ranked Waikato P. (2-3). Top-ranked Wellington S. managed to get a 10-point victory 90-80. It looked good early as Waikato P. took an 19-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Wellington S. took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 10 points. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Waikato P.'s 38. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international guard Corey Webster (185-88, college: Lambuth) who helped to win the game recording 28 points and international guard Lindsay Tait (194-82, agency: Impact Basketball) who added 13 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. At the losing side international center Alex Pledger (216-87, college: Belm.Abbey) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds and American guard Jason Crowe (193-76, college: Cal.St. Northridge) scored 14 points and 7 rebounds. Five Wellington S. and four Waikato P. players scored in double figures. Wellington S. have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 6-0 record behind leader Bay Hawks. Waikato P. at the other side keeps the fourth place with three games lost. They share the position with Auckland P.. Wellington S. will play against Southland S. (#6) on the road in the next round. Waikato P. will play against Manawatu J. in Palmerston North and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
