Regular Season Round 12: Humacao - Santurce 96-102

There was a small surprise in Humacao where sixth ranked Cangrejeros (7-7) defeated one of their biggest challengers Caciques (7-7) 102-96 on Thursday. Caciques were trailing by 7 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 31-24 charge of Cangrejeros, which allowed them to win the game. They made 24-of-31 free shots (77.4 percent) during the game. Cangrejeros outrebounded Caciques 43-32 including 29 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American forward Michael Sweetney (203-82, college: Georgetown) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points, 18 rebounds and 6 assists. International power forward Ricky Sanchez (212-87, college: High School) chipped in 29 points, 5 rebounds and 6 blocks. Five Cangrejeros players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Denis Clemente (185-86, college: Kansas St., agency: KMG Sports Management) who recorded 29 points and American power forward Ivan Johnson (203-84, college: Cal.St.-San Bernar.) added 22 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Cangrejeros moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Humacao and Arecibo. Cangrejeros will face Gallitos (#9) in Isabela in the next round where they are favorite. Caciques will play at home against Maratonistas (#8) in Coamo.
